Lawrence E. Shapiro, Ph.D. is an internationally recognized child psychologist and parenting expert. He has written over two-dozen books and created over 75 therapeutic games that are used by tens of thousands of mental health professionals around the world. Dr. Shapiro’s parenting book, "How to Raise a Child with a High EQ: A Parents’ Guide To Emotional Intelligence" (HarperCollins, 1998) has been translated into over 20 languages. His books include the recently released "The Idiot's Guide to Baby Brain Games," as well as "The Secret Language of Children," "Stopping the Pain," and the soon-to-be-released "A Parent's Guide to Getting Kids Out of the Family Bed" and The Baby Emergency Handbook." Dr. Shapiro lectures more than 50 times a year on his innovative techniques in helping children.
Dr. Shapiro brings a wide range of clinical experience to his writing and lectures based on his 20-year career as a school psychologist, as the director of a school for multi-handicapped children, and in private practice in Washington D.C. and Philadelphia, Pa. His clinical experience has focused on treating the behavioral problems of children through positive discipline and emotional intelligence techniques. In 2002 he trained more than 3,000 mental health professionals, teachers, and parents. In May of 2003, Dr. Shapiro was a keynote speaker at the International Congress of Early Childhood Educators in Monterrey, Mexico.
Dr. Shapiro has appeared on many national TV shows, including the Weekend Today Show, MSNBC, and Fox News and he has been the subject of feature articles in such prominent newspapers as the Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, and Boston Globe. He is frequently quoted in national magazines such as Parents Magazine and Good Housekeeping.
